How to plan a cloud migration without pausing the business

Cloud projects succeed when the team maps dependencies, defines rollback paths and moves workloads in sensible waves.

A useful migration plan starts with the business calendar, not the server list. Critical reporting periods, customer launches and seasonal peaks shape the safest migration windows.

The next step is dependency mapping. Applications, databases, identities, integrations and backup routines need to be grouped into migration waves that can be tested and rolled back cleanly.

Good migrations also define operating standards before production moves: monitoring, alerting, access policies, cost tagging and incident ownership should be ready before the first workload goes live.
